Reports of the detention of an Omani writer

Omani authorities in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, southern Oman, have been detaining the activist and writer Mohammed Ali Bukhit Al-Barami, born in 1970, since the beginning of March 2024, due to critical posts on his personal Facebook page targeting the Omani government and some Gulf and Arab regimes. Al-Barami has published several posts criticizing governmental performance and some officials within the Omani government, in addition to other posts criticizing certain Gulf and Arab countries due to their positions regarding the war in Gaza since October 7 of last year.

The OCHRD calls on Omani authorities to immediately release Al-Barami without conditions, and to respect and protect freedom of opinion and expression in Oman.
